China’s treasury minister shocked the country’s struggling solar sector by announcing vast subsidies for building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) products, potentially setting the domestic market on fire.
The Chinese government says it will pay a subsidy of 20 yuan ($2.93) per watt peak of solar-fuelled power produced by BIPV installations with a capacity of more than 50 kilowatt peak. In many cases that will cover more than the cost of the solar panels, leaving consumers with nothing but installations fees.
The market for BIPV in China remains small. With many Chinese solar firms sitting on huge gluts of unsold inventory, analysts remain mixed as to the what impact the subsidies will have on the sector.

SNEC PV Power Expo is the largest, most popular and influential solar PV event in China and Asia at large. It is now the widely-recognized PV show in China as Intersolar in Europe and Solar Power International in America. SNEC PV POWER EXPO has grown into a globally recognized and Asia’s largest annual PV show covering the whole PV industry chain.

At SNEC (2010) PV POWER EXPO, which ended successfully on May 8, 2010, photovoltaic companies from 66 countries and regions gathered in Shanghai for this grand occasion. 1,408 exhibitors, 85,000 sq. meter exhibition space and over 100,000 visitors have made it once again break the record of PV exhibitions previously held in Asia. Upon the previous success of four SNEC events, Shanghai New Energy Industry Association (SNEIA) plans to hold SNEC 5th (2011) International Photovoltaic Power Generation Conference & Exhibition [SNEC PV POWER EXPO 2011] from February 22 to 24, 2011 at Shanghai New International Expo Center (SNIEC), China.
